This is no fairy tale story but it is REAL

I just finished this book tonight, “Dragons to Butterflies”. I initially contacted Johnnie out of pure curiosity and because I love reading people’s personal recovery stories. He personally signed it for me and sent it to me free of charge. He then sent me a friend request on FB and I learned that he and I have been active in the same organization: This is My Brave. We’ve chatted a few times on messenger and I told him that I would finish reading and write a review. Well it’s no secret that lately I have been battling my own depression (Becky). I started reading it a few weeks ago, finished the first chapter and then put it down for awhile. Still, being a man of my word, I committed to finishing it this week. Ok folks, you HAVE to read this! If there is any raw and real description of the ongoing struggles of mental illness and/or substance use out there, this is it. This man, throughout his life, has repeatedly had to overcome struggle after struggle. This is no fairy tale story but it is REAL. It is honest, and it is incredible. Once I picked it back up this weekend, it was easy to finish. We dont frequently get these sorts of opportunities to explore what mental illness looks like in men, but Johnnie opened his life for us to take a peak. Honestly, I feel extremely grateful to have had this opportunity to connect with this guy. Seriously, read it. It is so worth it. Thanks
